Backpack Check!

Backpacks.jpg

Now that we have settled into our fall routines, it’s a good time to check in with your child’s backpack—and it’s always a good time to evaluate how much you’re carrying around, too! Our backs do so much for us, and sometimes we don’t always treat them kindly! These recommendations apply to diaper bags and purses, too! We’re big fans of backpack style bags around here! 😉

Do:

  • Pick a bag with well-padded and comfortable straps

  • Get a backpack that fit snugly to the back

  • Put the heaviest item should go closest to the back, and light items toward the front

  • If adjustable, the adjustable plastic piece should hit two inches below the shoulder blades

  • Balance the weight, so one side is not heavier than the other.

Don’t:

  • Use just one strap—use both straps!

  • Let the straps be so tight that they dig into the skin

  • Carry more than 10% of you/your child's body weight

Backpacks, when used correctly, are preferable to one-shoulder bags for your spine health. The unequal distribution of weight can cause neck, back, and shoulder pain—and while intūn ChiroCare will offer chiropractic care to any back in need, we are passionate about pain PREVENTION, not just dodging symptoms.
